The mural, which measures 91” high x 281” long, is translucent and can be viewed while walking down Portage Avenue or while walking through the skywalk system. This series was specifically created for a juried public art competition in Winnipeg, Manitoba entitled “Give Portage a Shot” and sponsored by the Downtown BIZ, the Winnipeg Arts Council,, the Winnipeg Parking Authority and the FWS Group of Companies. Pictures of the installation and the five images created for the competition can be seen in the Public Art section of The Walk Project Gallery.

November 8, 2005: David Firman Awarded Manitoba Arts Council Grant

On November 8, 2005, I was awarded a $4,000.00 Creation/Production Visual Arts B Grant to assist in the creation of four artist's books (from the Walk_Journeys series) and a portfolio of monochrome prints (from the Walk_Sketch series). Manitoba Arts Council Grants are peer-juried. This is the first arts grant I have applied for in my arts career. However, The WALK Project will be financially demanding and the assistance provided by the Manitoba Arts Council is very important to the develpoment of this project.
