Welcome to firmangallery.com, my chance to share with you many of my photographic explorations.
In the Galleries section, you will get a sense of my varied photographic interests, ranging from: panoramic images using large format Cirkut cameras, swing-lens 35mm cameras and QuickTime VR; to travel photographs focusing on Cuba, France and Eastern Canada; to studies such as bridges and grain elevators; and, most recently, my ongoing Walk project. Walk is an exciting, new direction for my work and a special area in the Gallery section showcases this project.
Throughout the galleries, you will notice a few recurring themes. There is a strong emphasis on landscape, both urban and natural. In particular, I am constantly intrigued by the prairie landscape, my appreciation no doubt nurtured by having lived in the prairie province of Manitoba, Canada since 1970. Lastly, I have always sought means of expanding my photographic view beyond what I see right in front of me. I have experimented with several panoramic formats, as mentioned above, and tried various means of assembling images, such as my Cuba Montages. Today, that exploration continues in the Walk project which relies on digital imaging and editing to make complex linear images.
The Learn More section of my site is the place to learn a bit more about my photographic background, which extends back to 1980 (my full biography can be found here). There are also special topic pages exploring the photographic techniques I use as well as essays on some of the places I have visited and photographed: Grey Owls cabin in Riding Mountain National Park, Cuba and Saint-Pierre et Miquelon.
The Purchase section will provide details if you are interested in owning archival, museum quality prints of images shown in most of the galleries. There is also a link to my CafePress store, where you can buy posters and cards.
If you have any comments regarding my images, feel free to contact me. In the meantime I hope you enjoy the pictures and writings on my site. That is its primary purpose.
